Periodontal Work
Periodontal work is the prevention and healing of periodontal disease or gum disease. That is an infection attacking the gums and bone where the tooth is held. The disease is caused by bad dental hygiene, mainly the lack of proper daily brushing and flossing, which leads to build up of plaque around the gums and then to infection and inflammation of the gums. Periodontal disease in its various stage is very common. Symptoms include bad breath, receding gums, swollen gums, bleeding gums when brushing and ultimately loose teeth and loss of teeth.The first stage is a mild gum disease called gingivitis. The next stages are early and advanced periodontal disease, where the infection is attacking and damaging gum and bone. Early diagnostics is possible by regular dental examinations including the dentist measuring spaces between gums and teeth with a probe. Mild forms of the disease can be prevented and treated with proper daily brushing and flossing and with regular professional dental cleaning and scaling. Our hygienist will instruct you in the proper techniques for brushing and flossing. Treating advance forms of the disease may require surgical methods to be undertaken by a specialist. Gum disease must be cleared before undertaking many other dental procedures.
